Amnesia

I like the idea of gists, they’re cool. Stick a single file up on GitHub, get your version control handled for you. Once that’s sorted you can embed it in a site etc.

What I don’t like is the fact that it’s on GitHub and I have to remember to actively take it down when I’m done with it.

Amnesia is the intersection between some of the features that GitHub give you and a more privacy focused version that auto forgets code snippets.

Here’s a preview:

Version control isn’t handled by git in this case. Each snippet has a TTL attached to it and, if a new revision isn’t saved, will automatically handle deletion after a set amount of time.

I really like the idea of “forgettable” services like Amnesia and Letterbin. I think that as much as we like technology to remember things, we also have data that we simply want to have hang around for a limited amount of time.

So, if you have code snippets or other text documents that you’d like to share but have forgotten automatically try Amnesia, it might be what you’re looking for.

My good friends also helped out on this by making both Sublime and Atom* packages. Nathan and Jolyon, thanks!

* Atom has unfortunately gone now 🙁
